Unique capture facility for system training

A new screen capture facility in Question Tools Editor Professional Edition can record activity on screen and automatically convert it into a Question Tools animation. This can be included in any lesson, survey or test, with delivery in Question Tools Exam, or any modern web browser, such as Internet Explorer, FireFox, Netscape or Opera.

The unique aspect of the Question Tools screen capture is that playback in a browser does not require a plug-in, such as Flash. As network managers worldwide tighten security plug-ins are increasingly difficult to install on many corporate networks. Materials created using Question Tools do not need browser plug-ins, such as Flash.

This facility is ideally suited to systems training, where users need to see an operation being performed. In the past constructing an animation to show this sort of activity would have required specialist skills, time and patience. Now, users only have to start recording, perform the actions and stop recording to obtain an immediate online demonstration of the steps they wish to explain and show.

There is a demonstration of the new screen capture facility here. Alternatively, to try out screen capture on your own computer facility:

  • Use the updater to update your version of Editor Suite to 3.0.10 or higher.
  • Start Editor, and switch your version to the Professional or Developer Edition (use the Options menu in Editor, and select Preferences).
  • Close down and start Editor again to complete the switch to the Professional or Developer Edition.
  • Select Capture from the Options menu.
  • Once the Capture window displays press the F1 key to get help and instructions on using screen capture.
  • Start by capturing a small area of the screen for just a few seconds while oyu get used to it.
