Problems Fixed in Version 2.X

Which version have I got? To find out which version of Editor, SimpleSet or Exam you have go to the Help menu and select About. The screen here will display the version number. Editor

Editor 2.1.8 fixed this problem

  • Pretest screens. Answer field and menus in web-based pre-test screens failed to collect and display the information entered. Thanks to Andy Blunden for identifying this. Problem rating: 5.

Editor 2.1.7 fixed this problem

  • Hotspots all black. Hotspot areas for lessons, tests and surveys displayed in Internet Explorer version 6 appear as black. This is an error in Internet Explorer, where it displays a completely transparent gif image as black instead of transparent. This version addresses this problem by ensuring that the areas are no longer completely transparent Ben Jacobson was kind enough to identify this problem. Problem rating: 3.

Editor 2.1.6 fixed this problem

  • Ticks and crosses do not appear. In correcting the problem for version 2.1.4 a mistake was made which stopped ticks and crosses appearing in web pages. This has been corrected in this version. Thanks to Dr. Sherman Ho for spotting this. Problem rating: 6.

Editor 2.1.5 fixed this problem

  • Feedbacks do not work. In correcting the problem for version 2.1.4 a mistake was made which stopped feedbacks working in web pages. This has been corrected in this version. Thanks to Dr. Sherman Ho for identifying this problem. Problem rating: 6.

Editor 2.1.4 fixed these problems

  • Answers disappearing. If users move between questions very quickly answers can be lost. This problem tends to occur only over networks, or with very slow machines, where a degree of latency is introduced. This version fixes this problem. Thank you to Fredeline Engelbrecht for identifying this issue. Problem rating: 7.
  • SCORM XML problem. Some XML parsers mistakenly declare an XML manifest to be a faulty XML document if it starts with a blank line. This is not a fault with Question Tools, but with some XML parsers. Nevertheless, this version removes the line and avoids the problem for parsers with a sensitive nature. Thank you to Goh Sk for raising this. Problem rating: 4.

Editor 2.1.3 fixed this problem

  • Negative numbers. Some changes to the way answer fields deal with integers and real numbers has meant that users are unable to enter the negative (-) sign in a number field. This fixes the problem. Problem rating: 4.

Editor 2.1.2 fixed these problems and introduced these features

  • Animated gifs. Animated gifs do not work with Editor or Exam, and if an attempt is made to load them it would hang Editor. This has been corrected. Problem rating: 6.
  • Drag targets. If a drag target is clicked and resized in one movement the change can be ignored. Problem fixed. Problem rating: 2.
  • Subtitle button. The subtitle button in a web page can cause errors that prevent the test functioning. This has been corrected. Problem rating: 5.

Editor 2.1.1 fixed this problem

  • Styles. If a background image used for style is not the same as other background images in other styles then this can cause unfortunate image resizes. This problem has been fixed. Problem rating: 1.

Editor 2.1 fixed these problems and introduced these features

  • Pasteboard. The Options menu now includes a Pasteboard setting. The Pasteboard window allows large amounts of text to be pasted in and then dragged to the text areas where it is needed. You can find out more about this feature here.
  • Style adjustments. When you switch between different styles the size of the font and size of the buttons can disrupt the layout. This is a problem with all style approaches, whether in Word or Adobe InDesign, etc. Version 2.1 of Question Tools Editor introduces an adjustment feature that moves text areas selected amounts to compensate for these changes.
  • Cut, Paste and Edit. Cut, Paste and Edit all work well when used with keyboard shortcuts, but not if selected from the Edit menu. Thank you to Dexter Booth for identifying this problem. Problem rating: 3.

Editor 2.0.9 fixed this problem

  • Large fonts or 120dpi. Windows can be set to use large fonts (also called 120dpi in Windows XP). Editor does not cope with this setting very well. Version 2.0.9 does a much better job. Thank you to Jenny Hayes for spotting this. Problem rating: 3.

Editor 2.0.8 fixed this problem

  • No Results or Developer Options. A mistake was made in one of the uploads of Editor version 2.0.7 such that users could select Results and Developer options but never got the facilities. Thanks to Pieter Joubert for spotting this. Problem rating: 5.

Editor 2.0.7 fixed this problem

  • Randomized pages. One of the List Inspector options in Editor allows you to select how many questions will be randomly selected and displayed to the user. However, this only works in a browser if you have one or more pre-test screens. Thank you to Michael Thorn for identifying this problem. Problem rating: 3.

Editor 2.0.5 fixed this problem

  • Active web pages. When you move from screen to screen during a test the window moves to the back. This problem only affected version 2.0.4. Problem rating: 2.

Editor 2.0.4 fixed this problem

  • Active web pages loop. Some servers do not return the file you ask for, but instead redirect your browser to add session information. This can cause a loop when starting an active web pages test, lesson or survey. This fixes this problem. Thanks to Steve Littlewood at Huddersfield University for his help in tracking this down. Problem rating: 7.

Editor 2.0.3 fixed these problems

  • Error in web tests. If results text included quotation marks then a web-based test could never run. Thanks to Ted Cooper for spotting this. Problem rating: 7.
  • Editing logon details. Editing user logon passwords and usernames for Active Web Pages tests and lessons produced users who could never log on. Thanks to Jin for identifying this. Problem rating: 5.

Editor 2.0.2 fixed these problems

  • Empty PHP scripts. The Results Edition produces empty PHP scripts, so that the test, lesson or survey can never work. Fixed, and thanks to Donald Halliday for accurately pinning this down. Problem rating: 6.
  • Linux shares. When tests, lessons or surveys are created directly onto a Linux share some files can go missing. This change improves the situation. Click here to find out more. Problem rating: 4.
  • Linked help. Text areas can now be dynamically linked to results text. This is not a problem fixed, but the late addition of a new feature. Click here to find out more.

Editor 2.0.1 fixed these problems

  • Help links. Some help links, when the user presses F1, produced 'not found' messages. Problem rating: 2.
  • Grouped objects. Moving groups of objects using the arrow keys has been improved. Problem rating: 2.
  • Undo and images. Undo did reverse a picture or drag image change, but did not appear to reverse the action. Problem rating: 3.
  • Feedback position. When viewed in Internet Explorer version 6.0 feedbacks appeared behind drag buttons. Problem rating: 3.

NetSeries

NetSeries 2.0.5 fixed this problem

  • User numbers. The NetSeries copes very well with automated hacker attacks and probes. However, these attacks, all over the internet, are as frequent as every minute, and during this time the hacker's probe is registered as a user with no rights. This version logs these probes off more quickly. Problem rating: 2.

NetSeries 2.0.4 fixed these problems

  • Tutors and usergroups. If a usergroup is edited to add a tutor the tutor still does not get access to that group. Version 2.0.4 fixes this. Thanks to Steve Littlewood for identifying this. Problem rating: 5.
  • Find users and username. If anything is entered in the username field when finding users the find returns no users. Thanks to Once again, thanks to Steve Littlewood for spotting this. Problem rating: 2.
  • Tutors and MyInformation. If a tutor logs on then she or he is displayed as a tutor. However, the My Information screen shows them to be a user. Thanks to Steve for reporting this. Problem rating: 1.

NetSeries 2.0.3 fixed this problem

  • Individual passwords. Although users can press the My Information button and enter a new password the entry fails and no change is made. This version fixes this problem. Thank you to Steve Littlewood for spotting this. Problem rating: 3.

NetSeries 2.0.2 fixed these problems

  • Creating Users. If you create more than 10 users then the users after row eleven are simply ignored. Version 2.0.2 fixes this. Problem rating: 5.
  • Resuming tests, surveys and lessons. If a user fails to complete a test, survey or lesson then their results are lost. Version 2.0.2 fixes this so that uses can return to tests, surveys and lessons and complete them. Problem rating: 8.
  • Creating users from files. Uploading a file of users (up to 1,000) is now possible. This was an omission rather than an error. Problem rating: 2.
  • User passwords. Users cannot see their own details, nor change their own passwords. This is not an error, but the addition of an extra feature kindly suggested by Steve Littlewood. Problem rating: 0.

NetSeries 2.0.1 fixed this problem

  • Shutdown. NetSeries version 2.0 will simply shutdown after running for about 2 minutes. There is no warning and no error. Thanks to Pieter Joubert for identifying this problem. Problem rating: 8.

Exam

Exam 2.0.6 fixed this problem

  • Marked questions after finishing. If a test is set so that the user cannot see the marked questions once the test is finished then Exam will show the questions anyway. This version fixes this problem. Thank you to Chunsik Park for pointing this out. This has been corrected. Problem rating: 4.

Exam 2.0.5 fixed this problem

  • Animated gifs. Animated gifs do not work with Editor or Exam, and if an attempt is made to load them it would hang Exam. This has been corrected. Problem rating: 6.

Exam 2.0.4 fixed this problem

  • Large fonts or 120dpi. Windows can be set to use large fonts (also called 120dpi in Windows XP). Exam does not cope with this setting very well. Version 2.0.9 does a much better job. Thank you to Jenny Hayes for spotting this. Problem rating: 3.

  • Start button. Exam uses the default Start Test button even when an appropriate graphic is available. Problem rating: 2.
